Howard Turner, who originally instigated this meeting of minds, was strongly influenced by African and South American rhythms and harmony whilst touring with the legendary sax quartet Itchy Fingers. When recording with Airto Moreiro and Flora Purim in the ‘80s he forged a style reminiscent of Stan Getz, lace with the mellifluous Stanley Turrentine.
Geoff Castle adds a formidable understanding of South African style, having recorded with Julian Bahula on the album ‘Winds of Change’. Ian Carr’s group, Nucleus and the Latin fusion group, Paz, have both moulded Geoff into a world-class musician, constantly searching for a new sound.
Ric Morcombe has performed with the best, lending skills to Gilgamesh with Alan Gowan, the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart and Daryl Hall. Ric and Geoff are no strangers, having played together in Geoff’s Strange Fruit in the ‘80s.
The awesome Rob Statham pays homage to Jaco Pastorius, with outstanding versatility on this album. Having played with Theo Travis, Rob went on to develop his fantastic lyricism alongside John Etheridge on the Zappa tour.
Yet again, Clark Tracey demonstrates his phenomenal versatility and vast experience. Clark has shared the bandstand with father, Stan, Johnny Griffin, Kenny Wheeler, Randy Brecker and many more.
Teena Lyle adds the icing on the cake with her exquisite percussion, complementing Clarks’s incisive drumming. Teena has graced the stage with Van Morrison, Maceo Parker, Bob Dylan, as well as John Lee Hookerl, Jimmy Witherspoon and Gloria Gaynor.
